With over 20 years of experience in youth development and education, Mike comes to AoA after having worked with organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento, the Center for Fathers and Families, Meadowview Community Action, Team-Up for Youth, the YMCA of the East Bay, West Oakland Middle School, and East Bay School for Boys. Presently, he serves as an Associate Minister at the New Life Community Church of Oakland, California.
Coach Mike, as he is often called, believes that every child is reachable, teachable, lovable, and savable and has a passion for developing young people into positive and productive contributors to society and the larger world. Though a native of Oakland (yet an avid LOS ANGELES LAKERS, DALLAS COWBOYS, & NEW YORK YANKEES fan), Coach Mike has spent time and worked with youth in both Atlanta and Sacramento. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his now 6-year old daughter Brooklyn, listening to music (old school hip hop and R&B are among his favorite), dabbling in graphic design, and watching WWE (don't judge...Triple H is THE MAN!).
Mr. Ron has been working with young people in education and organizations since 2012. He became part of the Gold Staff in March 2016. Mr. Ron believes that it is very important to invest into the young people of this generation. He enjoys the moments where he is able to help our students through difficult times and encourage them to be all that they can be. In his spare time Mr. Ron may be singing Karaoke or spending time with friends on the beach.
Ms. Trish is passionate about serving her community. Her ability to be innovative has helped equip students with the tools and skills that are necessary for growth. She has an extreme love for make up and hopes to one day open up her own makeup line that empowers womanhood.
Ms. Trish has over 6 years of experience working with youth. From 2010-2012 she worked for the Bay Area Urban Network (BAUN). Her regular routine consisted of home visitations, mentorship, outreaches, summer camps and Friday youth services. In 2013, she moved to Seattle and joined The Y - Americorps. There she served as the Program Coordinator for Bow Lake Elementary. Ms. Trish recently joined AoA in 2016 as a Gold Instructor and later became an Instructional Aide.
She enjoys having fun with her students and loves being apart of the AoA community. Her heart is to see every student thrive in their purpose and individuality, to become the incredible people they were created to be.
René has been working with middle school children for over a decade. He also runs his very own middle school program at Corpus Christi Church in Piedmont. René has been the Middle School Ministry Coordinator there for over seven years. He truly believes in having a safe and fun place for middle school children to grow and feel like they can be themselves is very important. "We are planting seeds that will grow in the future," is a favorite quote of his. He understands that a lot of the lessons we teach today might not reach the children immediately but the hope is that it sinks in, and later on they can learn from them. Born and raised in the bay area and loves the A's, Raiders, and Warriors.
Brian, who is known to many as Coach Burger, joins us with an extreme desire to walk along side of students and guide them in the direction of prosperity and success. His passion for the youth began in 2010 when he began his career with the YMCA of the East Bay. Coach Burgers favorite quote is: “I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed” (Booker T. Washington, 1901).
Coach Burger is no stranger to obstacles or adversity and has perfected the tactics needed to persevere. Coach Burger is an extreme sports fanatic. He is a die heart Cowboy, Warrior and Yankee fan. In his spare time he enjoys raising his 9 month old son - Brian Jr., playing video games and creating music. As a Oakland native Coach Burger can be spotted at local high school sports games; coaching, cheering and encouraging those that he once taught and still mentors.

Born in San Francisco, California and raised in Oakland, California, Robert attended Skyline High School. He later attended San Francisco City College and received a full athletic scholarship to San Jose State University for basketball. The oldest of 4 siblings (two brothers and two beautiful little sisters), Robert considers himself to be very humble and family oriented. He loves to learn new things, loves sports, and loves working out. Representing the Bay, he is a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, and the Golden State Warriors. Most importantly, he loves to help others, inspire others, and bring out the best in those who are willing to learn. As he leads them on their journey toward learning, he, in turn, learns himself...and he finds that absolutely beautiful.
